Mozart and Me
Sunday, March 19 at 2PM and 7PM
Black Box Theatre
Dr. Angela Waterman Hanson, Violin, Rachel Weidman, Clarinet
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major
Mozart: Clarinet Concerto
Mozart: Symphony No. 5 and Symphony No. 14
This concert, in the intimate Black Box Theater of the Ames Center, emphasizes our personal relationship with the music of Wolfgang Mozart. Whether writing for himself as a violinist or for a dear friend on the newly invented clarinet, Mozart created a remarkably warm and friendly relationship with the soloists. The Dakota Valley Symphony is proud to present its talented Concertmaster and new Principal Clarinetist in a special concert of the musical genius that is Mozart.
Young Artists’ Concert and Orchestra Festival
Sunday, April 23 2PM
Featuring the winner(s) of our Young Artists’ Competition held in January and The Linden Hills Chamber Orchestra, Dr. Yuri Ivan, Music Director
Mussorgsky/Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition
Dr. Yuri Ivan and members of the Linden Hills Chamber Orchestra
Ravel’s stunningly beautiful orchestration of Mussorgsky’s heart-felt tribute to his friend, gone too soon, is most surely not for the faint of heart. Each short piece is a musical representation of the artist’s sketches that are full of color, texture, and primal-earthiness. We will use the full digital resources of the Ames Center to view the original sketches Mussorgsky saw, and revel in the power of two orchestras joined together in a sometimes primitive, sometimes svelte, carnival of sound.
